A sweet friend has reminded me, "The years are short, but the days are long."
I think this is a perfect way to describe time in my life right now.
Time is a funny thing. It just keeps going. It doesn't stop when something hard or important happens. It doesn't revolve around just you. You can't speed it up on those days when bedtime can't come soon enough and you can't rewind it back to those moments that were your favorite. It just goes.
In some ways this makes me sad. Sad that my boys are growing up way too fast. Sad that my grandparents are dealing with the effects of age and time. And sad that there are days when I waste my time.
So, I kind of have this resolution lately to enjoy my time. To try to enjoy the moment. Not to rush so much. To let my boys have a little more freedom with how they spend their time. To try to be happy with how I'm spending my time.
Time is precious.
I can't believe it's been a month since I blogged! Yikes. Here's how we've been spending some of our time:
* Eric and I celebrated our 9 year anniversary on April 24th! I made him a key lime cheesecake, and then dropped it as I was pulling it out of the oven. Perfect.
* We have crabs. Yep, it's true. We came home from Florida with 2 hermit crabs. We now have a 'crabitat' in Sam and Max's room.
* It has felt so good to play outside. I love our yard. I love the flowers. The colors surprise me every year.
* Gram, Pops, and Ally came to visit! We had such a fun couple of days.
Last fall my dad challenged me to not only run the Mini Marathon here in Indy but also to beat him. I accepted the challenge and I'm proud to say that not only did I finish the race but I beat my dear old dad by 5 minutes! We ran the race on May 4th and it was really a lot of fun. It's the biggest race in the US...about 30,000 people run the half marathon, and part of the race is run on the Indy 500 Motor Speedway. It was a challenge for me, but I really loved it. It was fun to train with my friend, Savannah. Then two good friends from Toledo, Leisy and Beth, came and ran it with me, too! I loved doing this with my dad and sister. Good memories!
*Rookie Run! May is the month to be in Indianapolis. The whole city is busy with parties and events in prep for the Indy500. The boys ran in a race of their own last weekend. They were divided up by age and had a lot of fun. The medals and goodie bags were a big hit. They are looking so grown up!
