Motherhood has been good for me.
Motherhood has not been easy for me.
It's the hardest thing I've ever done.
The biggest thing I've ever had to tackle.
It teaches me something new every single day.

I thought for sure that by the time I had three kids I'd be a motherhood-pro.
But I'm not.
And I'm just beginning to realize that I probably never will be.
And that's totally fine.

Being a mother has taught me to enjoy.
To really just enjoy what is happening...in the very moment.

Is it possible to enjoy every moment as a mother?
Nope.  Hardly.
But it's a lesson that I am reminded of constantly.

Like yesterday.  I wanted to have a productive house-cleaning morning.
We got off to a good start, but got side-tracked when Eric walked in the door from work and the boys wanted to start up the fireplace.  I resisted at first and pushed dust rags and brooms into the boys' hands, but then it hit me (again), just enjoy this.

So, we did.  We lit a fire, sat around in our pj's, and roasted marshmallows at 9:30 in the morning.
It was perfect.  The house wasn't perfectly clean, the boys' hair wasn't perfectly combed, but the moment was perfect.

I'm learning to enjoy these small moments when they come.
And when I try harder, these perfect moments seem to pop up all of the time.

Here are some of my favorite December moments so far...

-Cutting down our own Christmas tree

-Sam and Max insisting on wearing Star Wars shirts and rain boots where ever we go

-Watching the boys excitedly decorate our little tree

-Seeing my three sweet boys with Santa

-Sam's secret after visiting with Santa, "Mom, I accidentally farted on Santa's knee!" (Lucky for Sam, Santa didn't seem to notice)

-Visiting the Children's Museum

-Catching the boys jumping on the bed

-Big smiles from my littlest guy

This week is bound to be full of perfect moments to soak in as Christmas is just a week away.
I can't wait!

What a fantastic motherhood lesson. I definitely needed to hear that. And side note: I MISS the Children's Museum. That is the greatest museum on the planet, especially at Christmas.

You are the perfect mom for those sweet boys. It is way too easy to second guess ourselves as mothers, but remember, it is all of those little things that make up the big picture. Loved this post and enjoy all of your perfect moments. I will try to do the same!

Loved this post Lindsay. I need to be reminded (OFTEN) to stop and enjoy the moments, so thank you. Your boys are as cute as ever and when did Jake get so big?! Too cute.

I have to agree with Emilee, the Children's Museum is truly the best. There's a museum nearby our house and it's a total letdown compared to CMI.

I feel like a stranger looking at your kids' photos. It's as if I don't recognize them anymore...they are growing way too fast!
