Since I entered the world of motherhood, Petsmart has become a store I frequent. Sam absolutely loves to wander in there and stare at all of the fish, birds, snakes, and mice...all of which kind of make me shudder! It's warmer than wandering the zoo in January and also quite a cheap alternative. Anyway, on Wednesday night we made one of these frequent Petsmart stops. We walked up and down each aisle practicing our animals noises and pointing at everything. Then we came upon a tank of teeny tiny goldfish. A sign was attached to the tank reading "12 cents each, take some home today." Hmmm...12 cents, now that was something I could afford. I don't know what came over me, but I grabbed an employee, asked for 3 of the cheapo fish and then asked him to point me towards the fish food. I heeded the sign's advice, and we are now the proud owners of 3 goldfish: Huey, Dewey, and Louie. Sam couldn't be happier, but I'm not so sure about the fish...

Petsmart huh? I love that place too... :) If your fish die within 2 weeks just take the body back and they'll give you a new one! No joke.
Wow, what a great idea wondering around PetSmart in the winter! Maybe we should do a playgroup there;) Sam looks very happy with the fish. I just don't think he is supposed to put his hand in the bowl. Oh well, it was only 12 cents each, right?!
Duck Tales, whoo oooh! Is that where you draw your inspiration?
Congrats on the newest addition to your family! It looks like they're in good hands....
Is the value of a goldfish's life really only 12 cents? What has this world come to?
Let me know if you find a dead fish somewhere around the house. Looks like Sam really enjoys them. We gave in awhile ago too and bought a few goldfish. What a great idea to go look at the animals. I will have to do that.
That is too cute! Next thing I know you will be buying a hamster and naming him Mr. Fuzz!!! Sam is one lucky boy!
haha...I love it..he is too cute!!!
Are they still alive? We also love pet smart! What years of med school won't to do you!
Sam's at the perfect age to be fascinated by the fish and not devastated when they die. What lovely cheap entertainment.

Life is so strange. I just ran onto your blog from a friend's blog and I was like .. Dockter? That couldn't be the dockter's from OHIO! Anyway, this is Maria Cragun - used to be in your ward in Toledo. I just recently made my blog a private one - but if you'd like to keep in touch, email me at maria.cragun@gmail.com, and I'll add you as a reader. What happened to Eric's leg????? Hope all is going well with you --

Hey Eric,
It's Brent Izu, from down I75 in Dayton, Ohio. I'm actually headed up to Case Western to learn how to do echocardiography in mice sometime this month. It'd be fun to catch up. Hope the ACL rehab is going well. Been there twice! My e-mail is brentizu@yahoo.com. Send a message if you get the chance.

I love this post! Sam looks like he is so happy about the fish.
We spend much of our time at Petsmart and Cabela's. Noah loves it. I keep thinking about getting him some fish. Maybe you've inspired me to do it.
